‘Showing Myself, Seeing Myself’

Since our first festival in 2023 Lived Perspectives has held screenings of disabled and neurodivergent filmmakers. By highlighting the innovative, diverse, and often challenging work from these filmmakers we aim to support them in telling their stories and create a space for their vision to be shared.

This year we plan to screen a selection of films by these two groups alongside a conference exploring the role and importance of creating opportunities for films by people from marginalized groups to be shared and seen.

The Lived Perspectives film festival invites proposals and workshop ideas from academics, research students, filmmakers, or lived experience led organisations that address this topic or support the wider engagement with or development of such films.

Contributions might, for example, explore:

• Lived experience filmmaking

• The role of small festivals in supporting independent, marginalised filmmakers

• Specific films or themes related to independent filmmaking by marginalised filmmakers

• Depictions of disability and neurodivergence in mainstream filmmaking

• The audience experience of seeing themselves and their experiences in film

• Workshop ideas that provide opportunities for diverse groups and individuals to come together around film
